Mark Ford — Moon Chasers
this beautiful, soothing marimba melody, written and performed by Mark Ford, is perfect for your break between working at home / homeschooling, for your short walk around the block for some fresh air, or for lying in bed at night and listening to it rain.
i got to see Mark Ford perform this live at Lee University. i happened to be in town visiting mom and dad when he was giving a free percussion ensemble concert. the Lee Percussion Ensemble also performed, and it was a delight to watch. check out his YouTube page for more performances by him and the University of North Texas percussion ensembles.
Santa Clara Vanguard — Babylon
if were in band, like me, then you probably love drum corps. this is one of my favorite moments from one of my favorite corps — Santa Clara Vanguard’s 2018 show “Babylon”. definitely put your earbuds in for this one. the beautiful ballad (“my body is a cage” by Arcade Fire, adapted) leads into one of the most iconic moments of recent DCI history — The Snap.
what is The Snap? your whole body will know it when it happens.
i have so many moments, it’s not worth trying to link to them here, but you may find yourself (like i did) down a nostalgic wormhole of great DCI moments. not a bad way to spend a half hour (or five).
Mañana (Is Soon Enough For Me) — Jackie Davis
if you need a little more bump — maybe you’re trying to get some cleaning done or a workout started — how about this tune, one of my go-tos. sounds great blaring through the open car windows, but is good for getting the blood pumping at home, too. this version is arranged and performed by the incredibly talented Jackie Davis.
you may recognize the music from this fantastic Seinfeld moment:
Mañana appeared on the LP “Hammond Gone Cha Cha”, referring to the Hammond organ at which Davis is a master. you can listen to the whole album here:
or you can buy it on eBay. here’s a listing. makes a great gift for the fun, creative, cocktail-lounge-music-loving bachelor in your life.
hypothetically.
